“Shun Exclusionist Politics,” says Atiku in response to Tinubu’s ‘Muslim-Muslim’ Ticket
BY Adeleye Kunle
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, has urged Nigerians to reject “exclusionist politics.”
In a statement released shortly after APC presidential candidate Bola Ahmed Tinubu announced fellow Muslim Kashim Shettima as his running mate, Abubakar urged Nigerians not to let ‘primordial sentiments cloud our politics.’
“In such a difficult time for our country, it is critical that we do not allow any kind of primordial sentiment to cloud our politics,” the statement said.
“Politics is intended to serve as a corrective mechanism.” So, even if we are angry about the inexcusable low that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has brought us in the last seven years, we must protect our politics from the corrosive effect of the ruling party’s failures. A society cannot advance if its politics are complicated.”
“Dear friend and compatriot, the journey we have agreed to embark on together cannot be completed by treading the ignominious path of exclusionist politics.” This journey, our campaign, is a rescue mission for our great country, and it requires the participation of all Nigerians.”
“So, while our opponents may believe that there is an easy path to victory in divisive politics, we must convey to them that Nigeria has seen the worst of exclusionist politics, and the path ahead is one of inclusive and unifying politics.” That is what we represent.”
“We are the Bridge Builders and Unifiers, and we represent the future of a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.”
