Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has denied having requested President Muhammadu Buhari’s permission to resign from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), TrackNews reports.

The memorandum, dated June 24, 2022, with reference number SH/VP/605/2/0 and titled “Permission to Resign from APC,” cited family pressure, his (Osinbajo’s) continuous participation in active and partisan politics, and his membership in the APC as reasons for his decision.

When asked to confirm the authenticity of the said memo, Mr Laolu Akande, senior special assistant to the president on media and publicity in the Vice President’s Office, described it as a forgery.

He claims that the author of the memo does not speak the same language as Vice President Osinbajo and that his boss would not write a memo with so many errors.

“Where do you people get these things?” Who gave you it? In any case, for the avoidance of doubt, the memo is a forgery. “VP did not write anything like that,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the “fake memorandum” purportedly written and signed by Osinbajo stated: “I have the honor to inform you that for some time now, I have been having a series of meetings and pressure from my immediate family members on some matters.” One of the issues concerns my continued active and partisan political participation, and thus my continued membership in our party, the All Progressives Congress, APC.

As a father and great member, without whom I would not be where I am today, I write to request your permission to resign from the All Progressives Congress, APC. However, if the timing of this plan is inconvenient or unacceptable to Your Excellency, I will unquestionably follow your decision and advice.

Please accept my heartfelt gratitude and loyalty,” it said.
