Tinubu’s disqualification process has begun, says Shettima.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.
The People Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stop All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu from replacing Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate.
Various groups and individuals have chastised the APC and its standard-bearer over the Muslim-Muslim ticket, according to Tracknews (first with Kabiru Masari, and the Shettima).
The PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, has now petitioned the court to declare Tinubu ineligible unless he runs alongside his previous running mate, Masari, in the 2023 election.
In addition, the PDP claimed that the term “placeholder” does not exist in Nigerian law.
Tinubu’s legal team responded that they are aware of the situation but have not yet been served with a court summons.
“I’m aware” (of the matter). They have not, however, served us.” When asked to confirm the service, the Tinubu Campaign Organisation’s Head of Legal Directorate, Babatunde Ogala (SAN), told the press, “They have not.”
