Aregbesola Pulls Down ‘Cryptic Note’ After Oyetola’s Loss – Explains Why

By Adeleye Kunle
Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, has deleted a post he made on his social media platform following the election of Ademola Adeleke as Governor of Osun State.
According to Track News, Adeleke, who ran on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, defeated the incumbent Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola, in the state’s recent gubernatorial election.
Governor Oyetola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) standard bearer, received 375,027 votes during the election and finished second to Adeleke, who received 403,371 votes to win the election.
Shortly after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the election winner, Aregbesola took to social media and quoted a portion of the Holy Bible, saying, “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the Most-High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men
According to Track News, Aregbesola’s cryptic post has since received a barrage of reactions on and off social media.
The Minister, who is a devout Muslim, returned to social media and deleted the post, claiming that it was unauthorized.
Aregbesola, the only Osun in President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet, had stayed away from the election due to a “official engagement,” according to his aides.
“IGNORE UNAUTHORIZED MESSAGE POSTED ON OGBENI RAUF AREGBESOLA’S SOCIAL MEDIA PAGES,” he wrote.
“It has come to the attention of the Minister of Interior’s media office, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, that an unauthorized message was posted on his Verified Twitter & Facebook Pages at approximately 8:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 17, 2022.”
The unwanted messages have now been removed. Members of the public, particularly the media, are advised to disregard!” Sola Fasure, Aregbesola’s Media Adviser, posted on Twitter.
According to , Oyetola and Aregbesola had a falling out shortly after the incumbent governor succeeded the minister at the end of his two terms as governor.
Their schism deepened after Aregbesola clashed with Oyetola’s estranged benefactor, APC Presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
