Mr. Ulgho Okumagba, a community leader in Okere Urhobo Kingdom, Warri South Local Government Area, has urged the Delta State government to take immediate action to stop the illegal sale of a large portion of land belonging to Okere Urhobo Kingdom.

Okumagba stated that the portion of land belonging to the kingdom around the School of Nursing to the headquarters of the Board of Internal Revenue was donated to the defunct Bendel State for the purpose of erecting public buildings, and that it was inherited by the state government upon the state’s creation.

He stated that they had observed some portions of the land being taken by those close to the government, with some selling them.

Okumagba also urged the state government to return the land to the kingdom if it had no intention of using it for public good.

“The then-Bendel State Government initially acquired these acres of land.” Delta State, which inherited the land, donated a portion of it to establish the state School of Nursing and the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue.

“A large portion of unutilized community land is being illegally acquired by Delta State Government cronies, who have begun illegally selling the land.” To avoid litigation, we advise buyers to avoid illegal land acquisition.”
