As the debate over the ruling All Progressives Congress (APCMuslim-Muslim )’s ticket for the 2023 presidential election rages, Guru Maharaj Ji, an Oyo-state-based Nigerian spiritual leader, has urged voters to focus on competence.

According to Track News, Maharaj Ji spoke shortly after paying homage to the monarch on Monday at the Alarere residence of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun.

“What is important is what an individual in the office is capable of doing,” Maharaj Ji said.

“Religion has not aided this country in any way, and anyone who disagrees with me should point out what religion has done for us in terms of development.”

“Or are we implying that Nigerians aren’t religious enough?” What matters is what a specific person is capable of; for the time being, we require performance.”

Despite widespread criticism, APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu stuck with his choice of Kashim Shettima, a fellow Muslim, as running mate.
