We can end insecurity by cutting off terrorist funding says Aregbesola
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.
Nigeria’s interior minister, Rauf Aregbesola, has stated that cutting terrorists’ financial lifelines can help solve some of the country’s security issues.
On Friday in Abuja, Aregbesola spoke at the inauguration of a 10-member inter-ministerial committee formed to oversee the adoption and implementation of the ministry’s assigned roles.
According to the minister, the inauguration is based on the federal government’s adoption of the Financial Action Taskforce (FATF) implementation roadmap.
He claimed that economic saboteurs were to blame for many of the country’s recent security issues because they “engaged in illegal financial dealings to the country’s detriment.”
He, on the other hand, reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to combating money laundering and terrorism financing in Nigeria.
“Let me reiterate the federal government’s unwavering commitment to putting an end to money laundering, terrorism financing, and other corrupt practices,” he said.
“As a result, we have become willing and active partners with other African and global partners in this advocacy and fight.”
“By cutting off the actors’ financial lifelines, some of the country’s current security challenges can be addressed.”
“The fact that some of them are still operating suggests that they have strong internal or external financial connections.”
