Wike meets with PDP governors and former governors in Abuja as his feud with Atiku intensifies.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.
Rivers state Governor Nyesom Wike met with governors who back him on Sunday to map out a strategy ahead of the 2023 presidential elections.
Wike appears to be irritated with Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar for his apparent lack of effort toward reconciliation following their fallout following his selection of Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
State governors known to be his major supporters attended the closed-door meeting in Rivers State Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, including Benue’s Sam Ortom, Oyo’s Seyi Makinde, Enugu’s Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia).
Donald Duke (Cross River), Gabriel Suswam (Benue), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Ibrahim Idris (Kogi), and Jonah Jang were among the former state governors in attendance (Plateau).
Others include Senator Suleiman Nazif, former PDP Deputy National Vice Chairman North; Adoke, former Attorney General and Minister of Justice; and Tijjani Yusuf, a member of the Kogi State House of Representatives.
The main goal of the meeting was to figure out a way forward.
The group is irritated that, despite humiliating the Rivers governor, the PDP presidential candidate has yet to reach out to him to appease him, despite Governor Ortom’s push.
Gana, a member of the PDP Board of Trustees and the North Central Coordinator for Wike’s Presidential campaign, told reporters after the meeting, “This is the first meeting we’re holding with all of our candidates in the states after the primaries.” We are one and the same.
“We know that events will unfold, and we will keep Nigerians informed as they do.”
