2023: Atiku meets with Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, and makes a request for 2023.

On Monday, Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate and former Vice President of Nigeria, met with a delegation from the British High Commission led by High Commissioner Catriona Laing.
The meeting took place at Atiku’s residence in Abuja, according to TrackNews

During the meeting, Atiku requested that the governments of the United Kingdom and Nigeria work more closely together to resolve issues that benefit both countries.

They also discussed a wide range of issues in Nigeria, including security, education, agriculture, the economy, and the promotion of national unity.

Atiku urged the UK government to play a role in ensuring Nigeria’s 2023 election is free and fair, emphasizing the importance of the country’s democratic development.

“The bilateral ties between Nigeria and the United Kingdom have a rich history, which both countries should leverage to promote issues of mutual concern,” he said.

Concerning insecurity, he requested assistance from the British government, specifically through training of Nigerian security personnel and intelligence sharing.

On the economic front, Atiku emphasized the importance of eliminating multiple exchange rate regimes and lowering taxes to encourage genuine manufacturers and real investments.

The PDP presidential candidate also lamented the ongoing ASUU strike and the educational sector crisis.

He has promised to implement education reforms if elected President in 2023.
