The police have launched an inquiry into the seven murders in Imo.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports.
Investigation into the reported seven murders and further injuries committed by hoodlums in Umuafom, an Orogwe town in Imo state, on Monday was ordered by the Imo state Police Command.
In a press statement authored by State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Micheal Abattam, the command gave this information to journalists in Owerri.
The leadership linked the incident to the Eastern Security Network, an armed group also known as IPOB, and also referred to the culprits as kidnappers.
The Federal Medical Center, or FMC, was required to treat six of the injured individuals; the police also concurred that there were seven fatalities in the incident.
According to the police, on January 8, 2022, at around 2200 hours, the Divisional Police Officer in Charge of Ogbaku Divisional Police Headquarters in Owerri, Imo State, received a distress call that three motorcycles carrying two people each and a black Lexus Jeep were being driven by armed bandits who were shooting intermittently at people inside a building in Orogwe, Owerri Wes.
With the help of a tactical unit detachment dispatched from headquarters to the area, the Divisional Police Officer quickly put together his team. When they arrived, the thugs had already fled after stealing a blue Toyota Sienna SUV. The tactical team of the command quickly set out to find them as the DPO and his men removed the remains to the mortuary and brought the injured people to Federal Medical Center Owerri. Unfortunately, seven (7) people died as a result of the tragedy, while another six (6) were injured and sent to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Owerri, Imo State.
Police claimed that CP Mohammed Ahmed Barde psc (+, the police commissioner, has ordered a clandestine inquiry into the incident to ensure that those responsible for this heinous behavior are apprehended and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
