All Progressives Congress, APC, stakeholders from the North Central stormed Abuja yesterday to protest the Muslim-Muslim ticket adopted by the party’s presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Over 1,000 APC supporters from the six North-central states also rejected Governor Simon Lalong’s appointment as Director General, DG, of the Bola Tinubu Campaign Council.

Under the auspices of the North-Central APC Stakeholders, disgruntled APC supporters marched to the Presidential Villa to file a protest letter.

The protesters, primarily APC women and youths from the six North-Central states and the FCT, said they were humiliated by the party’s recent actions, which they claimed did not demonstrate ethnic and religious inclusion.

Addressing journalists, the group’s leader, Dauda Yakubu, among others, said: “We are concerned that the various indices at work with our great party do not indicate that the Christians from Northern Nigeria are taken into account in the party’s scheme of things.”

“As concerned party stakeholders in North Central, we are humiliated by the party’s leadership’s actions that do not demonstrate ethnic and religious inclusion.”

“As a result, we believe Governor Simon Lalong’s appointment as Director General of the Presidential Campaign Council is an insult to our collective sensibilities as devoted party faithful in North Central.”

“You may wish to recall that in the annals of the party, the North Central zone has demonstrated an unalloyed commitment to the growth and development of the party,” the group writes in a protest letter addressed directly to President Muhammadu Buhari. But what have the people of the north central received in return?

“As party stakeholders, we have consistently advocated for Governor Simon Lalong to be the party’s vice presidential candidate because he possesses all of the required qualities.” But, much to our chagrin, he was appointed DG of the presidential campaign council.

“So many questions remain unanswered in our minds about the party’s position in the interests of Northern Christians.”

“If a Northern Christian is good enough to lead the Presidential Campaign Council, why isn’t a Northern Christian good enough to be nominated as our party’s Vice Presidential Candidate?”

“It is our considered position that the lines do not connect for us as party stakeholders in the country’s North Central zone.” As a result, we demand explanations for why our interests were sacrificed using a yardstick that defies logic.

“We maintain our position that something fundamental is wrong, and we are convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that you cannot sanction such a move by his forefather as a unifier and peace advocate.”

“Mr President, it is our sincere wish that you, in your fatherly manner, ensure that a Northern Christian is considered as our great party’s vice presidential candidate, and that the North Central zone deserves to be considered, given the current circumstances and the zone’s strategic importance in the affairs of the country.”

“The party leadership should call an emergency meeting to reflect Northern Christians’ wishes and interests in the composition of the party’s presidential team for the 2023 presidential elections.”
