Former Bauchi deputy governor North believed that Buhari will be the next Mahatma Gandhi.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
According to Sule Katagum, a former deputy governor of Bauchi State, the north regarded president Muhammadu Buhari as their Mahatma Gandhi.
Katagum claimed in an interview with Punch that the reasons he switched from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were due to the fact that the beliefs that had motivated him to join the party in 2014 were no longer relevant.
He claimed that he joined the party because of ideas like justice and fairness, and that they (the north) had anticipated Buhari to be similar to Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi.
He did admit, though, that he had come to see how diluted the party’s core values had become over time.
He said: “The party’s values included things like fairness, justice, and other things, which is why we joined the APC in 2014.” We had a tremendous faith in the APC, as evidenced by its motto. Without a doubt, Buhari was viewed as a messiah in the north. Nelson Mandela and Mahatma Gandhi were mentioned in comparisons to Buhari. We believed that this was a man who would make Nigeria what it ought to be by cleaning it up.
“Unfortunately, with time, the principles resembled those of the typical Nigerian political party more or less.”
