Deplorable Enugu community hospital after govt N22.39 billion health allocation
Agency Report
Residents of Obeleagu Umanna in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State lack access to health care delivery as a government hospital in their area has since become deplorable.
The Obeleagu Umanna community hospital has continued to be this deplorable even as the Enugu State government approved N22.39 billion for direct healthcare intervention in three years, 2020-2022.
And, this is not part of monies given to other health agencies in the state targeted at delivering healthcare to the people.
In a video shared by a health worker from the hospital, one could see the deplorable nature of the community healthcare centre with a fallen roof and no bed for patients that visit for admission.
One of the health workers, who explained how terrible the hospital has become, narrated how its ceiling fell off and almost killed a newborn baby, but was saved by the Grace of God.
The hospital that now has a resemblance to a zoo where animals are kept, has no drugs and equipment to function optimally.
The Deplorable Obeleagu Umanna Community Hospital
Mr. Chima Onyema, who spoke to MAWA-Foundation, corroborating the video, says, the hospital is worse compared to what was shown in the video. Describing the hospital as a reflection of the wickedness of the ruling class, Onyema accused the Enugu State government of abandoning the hospital because the lives of the poor do not matter.
“This shows how wicked our leaders can be, the Enugu State government willingly abandoned the Obeleagu Umanna hospital because the lives of the poor do not matter,” Onyema said.
Worse still, in the last three years, 2020 – 2022, the Enugu State government approved the total sum of N22, 395,087,180 for direct healthcare intervention.
It is not clear how the Enugu state government had in just three years approved N22.39 billion for healthcare delivery and Obeleagu Umanna is this deplorable.
When MAWA-Foundation sought an explanation from the Enugu State Government Mr. Ikechukwu Obi, the State Commissioner of Health, declined to comment.
MAWA also contacted Mr. Amoke Louis, Media Aide to Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Enugu State Governor, who refused to give a response.
