A legislator calls for implementation of Child Rights Act

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, a member of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Aviation, has urged state governments to implement the Child Rights Act (CRA).
In a statement issued in Abuja, Onyejocha, who represents Abia State’s Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency, urged the government at all levels to “double efforts and investment in the protection of children as well as provide the necessary legal policy framework to protect them against abuse.”
The Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives observed World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse alongside other world leaders and international organizations.
Onyejeocha expressed concern that “despite the passage of the bill, most children in the country do not have such rights, leaving many to be concerned about their future.”
Onyejeocha also advocated for increased awareness, as well as the inclusion of Child Rights Education in the school curriculum to provide children with knowledge about child rights.
“They are the future of our society, and they must learn to distinguish between their rights and their lefts at a young age.” “I believe this is critical in building a more civilized society,” she said.
