I wish to Congratulate our dear country in this maiden edition of June 12 Democracy Day Celebration which indeed has being rescheduled from the previous May 29th, to not only meet the ceasless clamour by the Yorubas and most other Nigerians on the pressing need to recognise the tragic events of our National politics, but also to immortalize the legendary M.K.O Abiola who is believed to have won the June 12 , 1991 Presidential elections widely held to be Nigeria’s most credible and fairest election in the annals of our Nation’s history.
Today, our Nation not only celebrate an Icon, but the 20years of uninterrupted civil and democratic rule, even though we are far from the eldorado of our dreams, truth must be told, Nigerians (especially those who experienced the dark days of military rule) celebrate Freedom and the pride of having a say in the governance of the Country Nigeria, as there is no gainsaying and in attesting to the fact that “even the worst democratic rule is far better than the best military rule”.
Present Muhammadu Buhari as a true Democrat, humanitarian and great listener has strive in the last 4years to consolidate on the gains so far recorded, and delivered more and more on the dividends of Democracy to a greater number of Nigerians, as was recently displayed also in the last 2019 General Elections, in the process making for the promotion of National Unity, peace and Development.
On this special day, I wish to join the host of Nigerians and our Development partners all around the world, to wish our dear Nation a Happy Democracy Day Celebration.
