After the draw, Pulisic says the US still has “a lot of work to do.”

Christian Pulisic, a midfielder for the United States, said he hoped his team’s 0-0 draw with Group B favorites England “made a lot of people proud” back home, but he and his teammates still have “a lot of work to do.”

The result puts the United States in third place in Group B, two points behind leaders England and one point ahead of Iran, which defeated Wales 2-0 earlier in the day. On Tuesday, the United States will face Iran in the group stage finale.

England had more possessions, but the US created more chances, with Pulisic hitting the crossbar with a shot in the first half. England put the Americans under pressure at times in the second half, but Tim Ream’s US defense held firm.

“A draw isn’t the worst thing in the world,” Pulisic said. “But I felt like there were stretches where we showed confidence and had a lot of the play, and created chances, and even could have won the game.”

“But, overall, I thought we did quite well.”

The game had been billed as an opportunity for the United States to demonstrate its ability to compete with one of the game’s heavyweights. Pulisic believes the United States did this to some extent, but he believes reaching the knockout rounds will do even more to win over new fans.

“With everyone watching from home, I hope we made a lot of people proud,” he said. “But the job isn’t even halfway done, so we still have a lot of work to do.”

Many of Pulisic’s sentiments were echoed by US manager Gregg Berhalter, who said his team delivered a “disciplined performance.”

The United States now heads into its final group game against Iran knowing that a win is required to advance to the World Cup knockout stages for the fifth time since 1994.
