“Akpabio should never have been a senator, not to talk of Senate President” – Ex-minister declares

Oby Ezekwesili, former minister of education and solid minerals, has declared that Godswill Akpabio is not a fit and proper person to be Nigeria’s Senate President.
Ezekwesili, a former World Bank chief, was reacting to the crisis in the Nigerian Senate yesterday, in which Akpabio, the Senate President, was vehemently rebuked by Labour Party senators.
Led by Senator Tony Nwoye from Anambra state, the opposition lawmakers lambasted Akpabio for neglecting them in nominating principal officers in the Red Chambers.
Darlington Nwokocha of the Labour Party had occupied the Senate Minority Whip position before the Appeal Court sacked him.
To the dismay of LP senators, their sacked colleague was replaced by Osita Ngwu, a Peoples Democratic Party senator from Enugu state.
The situation caused uproar in the Senate, a recurring decimal since Akpabio was elected as the Senate President.
Ezekwsili wrote on X:
“Our sharply declining Nigerian Democracy was apparently further assaulted by Senator Godswill Akpabio, who should never have been answering the title of Senator not to talk of “Senate President” were it not for the rottenness of the country’s judiciary that has obviously thrown caution to the wind and allowed itself to be corrupted and captured by decadent politicians.
“Mr Akpabio is regrettably caught up in the web of Hubris.
“We should remind him and his band of destroyers of democracy the wise and legendary words of Marianne Williamson:
“Empires always have the hubris to think they are indestructible, when in fact they are always unsustainable.”
