Alleged rape: Army hands over soldier to police
TRACKING >>ARMY authorities, on Saturday, confirmed that a soldier involved in the alleged rape of a female student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, has been handed over to the Ondo State Police Command for prosecution.
It was gathered that the suspect, Lance Corporal Sunday Adelola, had earlier been dismissed from the army before he was handed over to the police.
A source within the Army barracks disclosed to Sunday Tribune that the suspect had been tried at the brigade and has been dismissed.
The source said, “he has been sacked from service and he has been transferred to the police for prosecution because the army does not tolerate indiscipline. “
Confirming the development, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr Femi Joseph, said the suspect had been handed over to the police and would soon be charged to court.
“I can confirm to you that the soldier has been handed over to us. We will soon charge him to court,” Joseph said.
The suspect was alleged to have raped a 300-level student of the Department of Religious and African Studies of AAUA, inside a shed at a checkpoint, while the student was returning from the school.
It was earlier reported that the student was gang-raped, but investigation by the army revealed that only one of the soldiers committed the alleged offence.
