APC NWC will meet on Wednesday, 2023

By Adeleye Kunle
The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee (NWC) will meet on Wednesday.
The ruling party’s National Working Committee (NWC) will meet for its weekly meeting at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, the nation’s capital, according to Track News
An APC NWC member told Track News on Tuesday that the proposal for an emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting is on the agenda of the weekly NWC meeting.
He stated that the meeting was proposed due to the expiration of the NEC’s 90-day transfer of power to the party’s NWC on April 22.
The APC chieftain stated that the 90-day transfer would expire on July 22, 2022, and that the NEC would have to meet before the presidential campaign, which is scheduled to begin on September 28.
“With the three-month power transfer expiring on July 22nd, 2022, the NWC can no longer take vital decisions on behalf of the party without the approval of the NEC, and in light of this constitutional reality, some NWC members are pushing for an emergency NEC meeting.”
“Without a last-minute change, tomorrow’s (Wednesday) weekly NWC will have to discuss the development in order to set a date for an emergency NEC meeting before the start of the presidential campaign, which is scheduled to begin on September 28th, 2022,” the source said.
Recall that the party’s NEC delegated its powers to the NWC in response to a motion moved by Senate President Ahmed Lawan and seconded by House Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.
Initially, Lawan’s motion stated that the NEC’s powers should be assumed by the NWC indefinitely.
However, Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai amended the motion, recommending that the NWC exercise the NEC’s powers for 90 days. The motion was approved.
According to El-amended Rufai’s motion, the NEC’s powers under Article 13(3)(ii)(iii)(iv)(v) and (vi) were delegated to the NWC for 90 days.
As a result of the delegation of authority, the NWC was given the authority to carry out all of the NEC’s functions, as outlined in Article 13.3 (ii) of the APC Constitution.
