APC Presidential Aspirant, Rochas Okorocha Remanded In Custody Of Anti-graft Agency, EFCC

Okorocha, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All progressives Congress (APC), was last Wednesday arrested by operatives of the EFCC after laying siege to his residence in Abuja for several hours.
The Federal High Court, Abuja has remanded former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) pending the determination of his bail application.

Okorocha, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All progressives Congress (APC), was last Wednesday arrested by operatives of the EFCC after laying siege to his residence in Abuja for several hours.

The Senator was charged by the anti-graft agency before the court with N2.9 billion corruption charges.

In his ruling, Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered the remand of Okorocha, Punch reports.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and an ally of the ex-governor, Anyim Chinenye, is expected to join Okorocha in the EFCC custody.

Okorocha, Chinenye and five companies were arraigned on 17 counts of money laundering filed by the EFCC.

Ekwo adjourned till Tuesday for the hearing of the bail applications by Okorocha and Chinenye.

Okorocha, who is currently a Senator representing Imo West in the National Assembly, is to face trial alongside six others in the N2.9 billion money laundering criminal charges.

The Senator is being put on trial by the government on 17 counts involving criminal diversion of public funds and properties.
