Army Chief Calls on Soldiers to Strengthen National Security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has urged Nigerian Army troops to intensify efforts in making the country safer and more secure for all citizens.
Speaking during his first operational visit to the 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Charimaigumeri Barracks in Lokoja on Sunday, Oluyede commended the troops for their dedication to national security, defense of sovereignty, and commitment to upholding Nigeria’s interests.
Highlighting the security challenges across different regions, including the Northwest, Northeast, and North Central, he emphasized the need for increased commitment, responsibility, and courage from the soldiers.
“As it stands, Nigerians are counting on us to ensure a safer country. This requires greater dedication, a heightened sense of duty, and increased responsibility from every one of us,” he stated.
Oluyede reaffirmed his commitment to improving soldiers’ welfare and recognizing their sacrifices. Under his leadership, he noted, the army has doubled the Ration Cash Allowance (RCA) and Instructors’ Allowance, while also introducing an affordable housing scheme to help soldiers secure homes after retirement.
He assured troops of regular supply of uniforms, kits, and combat essentials, as well as improved office and residential accommodation. Additionally, he encouraged soldiers to take advantage of a newly introduced soft loan scheme to secure personal housing.
“As your leader, I will do my best to enhance your welfare and create a better army. Security is the foundation of national development, and it is our collective duty to ensure a safer Nigeria for future generations,” he added.
The COAS also advised troops to manage their finances wisely and avoid extravagant lifestyles.
During the visit, Oluyede, accompanied by the Commander of the 12 Brigade, Brig. Gen. Kasim Sidi, inspected ongoing and completed projects within the barracks. He also laid the foundation for new senior non-commissioned officers’ quarters and inaugurated a 6,000-litre electrically powered borehole.
His entourage included the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Maj. Gen. Obinna Onubogu, and other senior army officers.
