As Aghughu retires, Buhari appoints Onwuduli as acting auditor general.
Ibekimi Oriamaja Reports
Andrew Onwudili has been appointed as the new acting Auditor-General of the Federation by President Muhammadu Buhari (AuGf).
This information was released in a statement on Thursday by Ema Oqua, the head of the press department of the Office of the Auditor-General of the Federation (OAuGF), according to Track News.
The statement claims that Adolphus Aghughu, the former AuGF, left the government on September 7.
Onwudili was described as a thoroughbred, goal-oriented public servant with more than 30 years of professional experience in audit. Prior to his appointment, he served as a director in the OAuGF and was a Fellow of the Association of National Accountants (ANAN).
Prior to his appointment, the new AuGF held the position of Director of Audit, Extra-Ministerial Audit Department in the OAuGF, having started his career in the federal civil service as a senior auditor.
He took a lot of classes and received in-service training both domestically and overseas, expanding his professional network and enhancing his skills.
According to her, Onwudili is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).
According to a letter dated September 7 from the Federal Civil Service Commission, the office would be managed by Onwudili, the senior director, until a substantive AuGF is appointed.
The OAuGF is tasked with the duty of auditing the Federation’s public finances and of all offices and courts of the federation.
The Nigerian Constitution states that all books, records, returns, and other documentation pertaining to such accounts should be open to inspection by the AuGF or any person designated by him in that capacity.
This suggests that the Nigerian Constitution has granted the OAuGF the ability to conduct an audit of all government revenues and expenses.
