Atiku’s Men Masquerading As Northern Political Leaders – APC Alleges, Says His Endorsement Is A Plot

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged that the endorsement of the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, by a group identified as a forum of Christian and Muslim political leaders in 19 northern states was a plot by the party itself.

Track News gathered that the APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), in a statement issued by its Northwest spokesman Muhammad Shehu Molash, alleged that the group of Northern Christian and Muslim Political Leaders are Atiku’s men masquerading as northern political leaders.

He noted that the so-called endorsement by the group was a plot by the PDP to endorse itself so as to deceive members of the public, especially northerners.

According to him, the party is jittery about the growing acceptance of the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, by electorate in the north.

Molash advanced that it was on that premise that Atiku’s camp devised a means to dissuade northern voters by arousing sentiments with the said endorsement.

Molash pointed out that “Our attention has drawn to the purported endorsement of Atiku Abubakar as ‘Northern candidate’ by a group that calls itself a forum of Christian and Muslim political leaders in 19 northern states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“We wish to caution Nigerians, particularly northerners, that this is a new tactic by Atiku’s camp to unleash their foot soldiers, PDP elders masquerading as elder statesmen and other political entrepreneurs, on unsuspecting voters in the North, hiding behind hurriedly and poorly packaged groups to execute their agenda.

“The Atiku campaign organisation and think tank are obviously rattled by the growing acceptance of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his running mate Senator Kashim Shettima by the electorate in the North, hence they devised another means of defrauding the Northern voters, by whipping up sentiments.

“In the first instance, these self-appointed ‘Northern political leaders have always identified themselves with Atiku Abubakar and PDP. Therefore, it is a clear case of PDP endorsing PDP or PDP endorsing itself.

“We equally wish to state that our choice of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was informed by the need to uphold Nigeria’s unity through supporting one another to attain the highest office in the land; more so that Asiwaju Tinubu himself has always been supportive of presidential candidates of Northern extraction. It is only logical and natural to reciprocate that gesture.

“We also wish to unequivocally state that majority of Northerners are disposed towards the idea of having a president of Southern extraction to preserve the kinship and unity that exist between the various ethnic groups in Nigeria.”
