Attempted murder: Court remands another suspect in connection with an alleged attack on an ex-lawmaker

Robinson Uwak, a second defendant in the alleged attempted murder of a former member of the House of Representatives, has been arraigned before a Grade I Area Court in Nyanya, Abuja.The suspect, Joseph Utum, was accused of plotting his assassination with the ex-estranged lawmaker’s wife, Kezia Robinson Uwak, formerly Kezia Irek.After pleading not guilty to the charges brought against him, Utum was remanded at the Keffi Correctional Centre.On December 16, the Inspector General of Police charged Kezia Robinson Uwak and Ibiang Yemiode Ofem, both without Utum, with joint act and attempting to cause grievous bodily harm to the ex-lawmaker.The defendants, who pleaded not guilty to the charges, were remanded to Suleja and Keffi correctional facilities.The defendants were arrested, according to the F.I.R., for agreeing “to do away” with Uwak in order for Kezia to convert and inherit his valuable properties worth millions of naira in the FCT, Port Harcourt, and Uyo.The police claimed that, in accordance with the agreement, Kezia used a kitchen knife to stab Uwak while he was sleeping on May 27, 2022, and that if she succeeded, “it would have resulted in his death or bodily harm.””All of this was done in accordance with your agreement. “As a result, you committed the aforementioned offense,” the cops said.According to the police, the alleged offenses violate Penal Code sections 95, 79, and 248.The case of Justice M. Inuwa has been postponed until February 7, 2023.
