Ayo Adebanjo, the esteemed leader of Afenifere, has passed away.

Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, a distinguished nationalist and venerable elder statesman, has departed this life at the venerable age of 96.

He passed away peacefully on the morning of Friday, the 14th of February, 2025, within the serene confines of his residence in Lekki, Lagos State.

A revered barrister and erstwhile organizing secretary of the Action Group, Adebanjo also held the esteemed position of national leader of Afenifere, a prominent Yoruba socio-cultural organization.

He is survived by his 94-year-old spouse, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, along with a legacy of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His family has portrayed him as a man unwaveringly devoted to justice and equity, dedicating his life to the advancement of Nigeria.

Arrangements for his funeral are underway, with deliberations ongoing among his associates and well-wishers.

Condolence registers have been placed at his Lekki abode and his country retreat in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The announcement was made by his family members, Mrs. Ayotunde Atteh, Mrs. Adeola Azeez, and Mr. Obafemi Ayo-Adebanjo.
