Bad weather forces Abuja-bound British Airways flight to divert to Lagos
A British Airways Abuja-bound flight was early this morning forced to divert to the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos State following bad weather.
Information gathered indicated that the diversion happened at 5 am when the aircraft was making its descent to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The captain in command of the flight decided to choose to land the aircraft in Lagos after observing a change in the weather.
Tribune Online reports that the passengers could not be flown back to Abuja because of crew time that had elapsed. The airline to accommodate the passengers in Sheraton Hotel, Lagos, pending when they would be airlifted to Abuja.
The passengers in Abuja who had booked an 8 am flight to London on the aircraft have been stranded even though the situation has been communicated to the passengers.
Confirming the development, Regional Commercial Manager, Nigeria & Ghana at British Airways, Mrs Adetutu Otuyalo, attributed the diversion to bad weather even as she added that British Airways takes safety seriously in line with their standard operating practice.
