Basketball Africa League is the recipient of the African Excellence Award.

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) received the African Excellence Award (formerly Crossborder Award) for the second year in a row on Friday night at the annual Hollard Sport Industry Awards in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The South African sports industry converged to celebrate the best in class in South Africa and across the continent, spanning marketing, public relations, digital, sponsorship, advertising, community investment, social media, and branding.
“We are honored to receive the African Excellence Award for the second year in a row,” said BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall. We appreciate the acknowledgement of the league’s impact in its second season and look forward to another exciting challenge as we prepare for the BAL’s third season next year.”
The BAL’s expanded second season concluded in May, with Tunisia’s US Monastir being crowned the second BAL champion. The BAL was held in three iconic African cities this year: Dakar, Senegal (March 5-15), Cairo, Egypt (April 9-19), and Kigali, Rwanda (May 21-28).
The caravan format, which was originally envisioned when the BAL was announced in 2019, allowed more fans to experience the league’s excitement up close and in person, culminating in a sold-out crowd of 10,000 at the 2022 BAL Finals in Kigali.
The 2022 BAL season reached fans in 214 countries and territories in 14 languages, including all 54 African countries, and generated over 600 million online social and digital media engagements.
