The daughter of a serving Commissioner in the Bayelsa State Executive Council has called off her wedding less than 48 hours to the event, citing insincerity as the reason for her action.
The bride simply known as Gloria, who hails from Ogbia Local Government Area of the State, was said to have discontinued the wedding programme when she discovered that her husband-to-be had consistently be lying to her about his real identity.
According “According to Niger Delta connect, a close relative of Gloria, the groom had multiple relationships with other women and does not have an apartment of his own but was relying on her to get one after their solemnization. The source said:
“Gloria has been asking him to take her to his house but he refused, saying they will go after the wedding. Not knowing that he doesn’t even have a place of his own. So, when she discovered that she became furious and called off the wedding as everything was growing ever suspicious and of gold -digging.
“More so, this same guy has been lying about everything. He was even seeing other women, which she also found out. All he wanted was marry her and live off her. He is more like a gold digger”.
Our correspondent gathered that the decision of Gloria, who is also a staff of the state government didn’t go down well with her influential mother who felt that the development will embarrass her, having invited very high profile personalities for the wedding ceremony, including wife of the governor, Dr. Mrs Gloria Diri.
The mother was said to have encouraged her to continue with the process but she was adamant, insisting that she won’t venture into a union that will bring sorrow and regrets all her life.
It was learnt that efforts are being made to return the bride price to the groom’s family, which was paid on the day of the traditional marriage and officially communicate to them the unfortunate end of the entire marriage activities.
A close friend to Gloria said she has moved on with her life and has decided to put it behind her back despite the shame and embarrassment that it has caused her, adding that the man has been making some unfounded claims, which includes asking her (Gloria) to refund him money he spent in course of the preparations.
“My friend gave her all into this marriage including spending her own money to subsidize the ashoebi so all her friends can get it. She gave her all to ensure the best she can afford on everything despite the trying times.
“The nonsense guy said she should refund him the money he spent for the wedding. Is that not funny? How much did he even put into the entire arrangement? It was Gloria that was doing the spending. What he brought was not even up to 700 thousand naira. He is just being foolish.
“Me I’m happy for her that she discovered all about him before the main day. In fact if she had done the court, it would have been disastrous. Since it was just traditional, its easier to disengage. A lot of people may want to blame her but I stand with her and will always support the decision she took”. Efforts to reach the groom was unsuccessful as he was not taking his calls.
