Bayelsa NSCDC sets up 250-man response team

TRACKING___The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bayelsa State Command yesterday said it had intensified efforts at mitigating the spread of the COVID-19 in the state.

The state Commandant of the Corps, Mrs. Christiana Abiakam-Omanu, while giving an update on the activities of the Command on the coronavirus in Yenagoa, the state capital, said it had set up a 250-member response team to enforce preventive guidelines across the state.

This was as she explained that the Command set up the team because of the effects COVID-19 in line with the Crisis and Disaster Management mandate of the NSCDC.

According to the Commandant, the 250-man team would complement the Bayelsa State Task Force on COVID-19, chaired by Governor Douye Diri.

She, therefore, added that officers and men of the COVID-19 response squad had been adequately sensitised to enable them to respond and assist officials of state government in disease surveillance.

Abiakam-Omanu, who noted that the Command had complied with the Commandant General’s directive that the state Commandant should collaborate with the state governments to contain the spread of the virus and comply with preventive guides.

She, however, called on the people of the state to comply with the state government’s order on the prevention and mitigation of the spread of the coronavirus in the state in order to sustain “it’s no case status.”

She said: “The Bayelsa State Command of NSCDC is fully combatant ready to deal with the situation as it concerns enforcement of all directives aimed at prevention of the spread of the virus.

“We hereby call on the good people of Bayelsa State to adhere strictly to the regulations as rolled out by the state government as well as precautionary measures of constant hand washing, hand sanitising and maintaining of good hygiene within and around their environment.

“We, therefore, further appeal to the public as part of the preventive measures, to always wash equipment and materials in their workplaces and even at the markets, as well as homes.

“The command has equally provided sanitizers, nose masks and hand washing equipment as officers must also keep themselves in check as well as visitors coming in for activities in the command.”
