Bayelsa: PDP chieftain canvasses votes for candidates
Former governorship aspirant under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 election in Bayelsa State, Reuben Okoya, yesterday called on the electorate in the state to vote for all the party’s candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
This was as he described PDP as the party to join for the stability and unity of the state and the country at large. While addressing newsmen Area at Famgbe community in Yenagoa Local Government on the sideline of the party’s campaign, Okoya said: “PDP is the party to be with. PDP is the party to support. PDP has actually been in the state all this while and has done great works.
“We need to support our party to sustain the gains made so far in the area of socio-economic development of the state. We are all working hard to ensure that PDP stays in the state for greater things to happen. Nobody knows what tomorrow brings, but we are all hopeful that we will all be a part of the development of Bayelsa for the children of the future.” On the party’s candidates in the state, the philanthropist described them as great since they emerged through a well-coordinated primaries, saying they were properly screened and elected.
According to Okoya, the Bayelsa Central senatorial candidate of the PDP, Douye Diri, who is currently in the House of Representatives, has the legislative experience to uplift the district. He also added that the PDP candidate for Yenagoa/ Kolokuma, Prof. Steve Azaiki, a philanthropist and educationist, is a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and a commissioner in the state. Besides, he pointed out that the House of Assembly candidate, Oboku Oforji has served as Chairman of a local government, saying the three PDP candidates are seasoned and tested candidates. Okoya further explained that as a bonafide member of the party, there is the need for him to demonstrate his support to all the PDP candidates in the state in the coming election, adding that his goodwill would be an added advantage to the party.
