The projects were awarded between 2016 and 2017 for over N3 billion naira.
The Bayelsa State Sports Academy Asoama in Kolokuma/Opukumo local government area as part of governments idea was enacted to promote and support youth development and also give youths the opportunity to develop their talents.
This project was meant to pick children of the state and train them in sports to be international stars also asva means to drive the tourism industry in the state and generate revenue for the state.
This massive project have been awarded over 3 billions by the state government but it has been abandoned by contractors.
The primary motives of the academy when commenced is to run 60% academy and 40% sports.
Our investigation shows that the Academy has few buildings inside but deserted by group of people who has been saddle with the responsiblity to equip and kick start this project.
The abandoned environment and buildings have all been covered up by grass and reptiles.
Some members of the community expressed their disappointment and regret for something that is meant to bring development to their community but abandoned and plead the Government and those that the contract has been awarded to do something about it.
