Bayelsans decry rising cost of food items in Yenagoa markets
Residents in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital have lamented the steady increase in the prices of food stuffs and other commodities at major markets in the state, in the last 12months.
A check conducted on Wednesday on Opolo, Swali, Kpansia and Akenfa markets in the Yenagoa metropolis, confirmed this development.
Some buyers and sellers, Winifred John, Sylvia Daniel, and Victory Samuel, said the prices of food stuffs that include: Pepper, Rice, Beans among others have witnessed between 15 and 110 percents increase in the period.
Some sellers, Clara Joseph and Stephen Moses who deal on Vegetable oil and Goat meat respectively, blamed the skyrocketing prices on the subsidy removal, bad road and cost of the dollar to the naira.
They called on the government at all levels to fix the economy to alleviate the plights of the ordinary people.
