Be committed to your children’s upbringing, says an education expert
By Adeleye Kunle
Jide Bello, an education expert, has stated that parents’ roles in their children’s upbringing are just as important as schools’.
The appeal was made by Bello, the Executive Director of De Dynamic Private Schools, at the school’s end-of-year session and prize-giving day.
“Children spend more hours at home than they do at school,” says Bello, “so leaving schools with sole responsibility for their upbringing is incorrect.”
Bello, who emphasized the importance of instilling moral values in children, cautioned parents not to overlook this aspect.
He stated that the school was designed in such a way that moral behavior and academic performance go hand in hand. As a result, if parents wanted the best for their children, no one should be made insignificant.
In terms of educational standards, Bello advised school owners to look beyond the surface when hiring professionals, both academic and non-academic.
The expert emphasized that the quality of education was determined by the caliber of school employees.
Kola Oyekanmi, a guest speaker at the event, also advised parents to make their children responsible at home by sharing household tasks so that they can contribute to the family and feel a sense of belonging. He also advised them to set boundaries and enforce discipline without being too strict.
