Before leaving office, Fayemi promises to address workers’ concerns

By Adeleye Kunle
Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has promised to address workers’ demands before leaving office.
Fayemi stated this in Ado-Ekiti during a visit by the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ekiti State Chapter.
On October 16, Fayemi will hand over the reins of power to Governor-Elect Biodun Oyebanji.
He stated that before dissolving his administration, he would definitely resolve the outstanding issues of deductions and promotion arrears in the state public service.
Fayemi also promised to look into the issue of raising the minimum wage for workers in Grade Level 14 and above.
“We’ll also look into payment of promotion arrears for 2019 and 2020,” he added.
He stated that the state’s difficult economic situation was caused by the global economic downturn.
“It’s not just our state; it’s everywhere, but we’ve stuck to our promise not to owe workers’ salaries.”
“We will continue to do our best to address issues concerning worker welfare and well-being,” he stated.
The governor urged state labor leaders to maintain the current industrial harmony between the government and workers.
He praised organized labor for its solidarity, support, and dedication to worker welfare.
The governor stated that his administration would work to improve the lives of retirees.
“We will keep our N100 million monthly commitment for pensioner gratuities,” he said.
Earlier in his remarks, the NLC Chairman, Mr Kolapo Olatunde, praised the governor for prioritizing workers’ welfare by paying salaries and emoluments on time.
Olatunde urged the governor to pay off accumulated gratuities and remit unpaid salary deductions to cooperative societies.
