Benue lawmaker survives an assassination attempt, as assailants burn the vehicle
The newly elected member representing Gbemacha, also known as Gboko West State Constituency of Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Aondona Dajoh, was reportedly attacked by hoodlums in Gboko. The incident occurred around 10pm when his car was set ablaze by the attackers. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Catherine Anene, confirmed the attack on Hon. Aondona Dajoh, saying that although he escaped unhurt, his vehicle was burnt down.
According to a close associate of the lawmaker who spoke anonymously to our correspondent, Hon. Aondona Dajoh was returning from Adekaa, a community in Gboko, after visiting a friend when he noticed a car driving closely behind him. Feeling uncomfortable with the situation, he increased his speed. The car continued to follow him and flashed its lights repeatedly. Hon. Aondona Dajoh further increased his speed and ran to a place where he saw many people around Gyado hospital road, parked his car, jumped on a fence that was nearby and ran for safety.
When the vehicle eventually arrived where Hon. Aondona Dajoh parked his car, the attackers came down and blocked his car. Upon realizing that there was no one inside, they set the car ablaze and fled the scene. Although Hon. Aondona Dajoh was driving a Toyota Sienna, he managed to escape unhurt. However, as of the time of filing this report, he could not be reached as all his phones were in the burnt vehicle.
The PPRO, Catherine Anene, said that she is yet to receive the report but assured that as soon as she receives it, she will make it available to the press. The attack on Hon. Aondona Dajoh is one of the many cases of insecurity in Nigeria, where citizens are faced with attacks from hoodlums and other criminal elements. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of elected officials and the need for the government to address the rising insecurity in the country.
