Describe Gov. Douye Diri as Present Day Boro With The Executive Red Pen Courageously Undertaking Mind Blowing Developmental Projects

Barr. Ayebakuro Igbeta, a one time Student leader, Legal Adviser of the Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) worldwide, Special Assistant on Media/Publicity to the MD/CEO, NDDC, immediate past Executive Secretary, Bayelsa State Centre for Youths Development and Frontline youth leader has called on Ijaw youths to use the opportunity of this year’s Boro Day Celebration to reflect on their lives and action to ensure that the Ijaw struggle as fought today aligns with the vision and spirit as laid down by the pathfinder and icon Late Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, who placed the emancipation of the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta in general, above and beyond his personal gains and even his life.

Igbeta who is the present Secretary-General of the popular Prosperity Youths Coalition (PYC), in his statement sent to our studios extolled the late Boro as courageous, tenacious, and guided by love for his people, a love powerful enough to challenge the established marginalization of his people within the Nigerian state, braved the fury of the federal government and even death itself.

The former IYC Legal Adviser pointed out that it is the sacrifices of fearless Ijaw men like Boro that brought about the establishment of interventionist agencies like the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC), The Amnesty Office, The Ministry of Niger Delta, the Niger Delta Basin Development Commission, the NCDMB amongst others, therefore we Ijaws are always rights to assert that every pieces of brick at agencies like the NDDC are foist with the blood of Ijaw men and women who by their sacrifices compelled the Federal Government to establish these agencies.

Igbeta called on Ijaw youths, especially Bayelsans to learn and grow in Boro’s ideals looking beyond temporary achievements, as no matter the amount of wealth accumulated or the material possessions gained, nothing truly stands the test of time as a good name and one’s contribution to the betterment of his kins and homeland. Pleading that this Celebration is about a reminder of the Ijaw struggle and a call to duty to serve Ijaw nation, therefore youths must resist the temptation to leverage on the celebration to perpetrate criminality, drug abuse and drunken behavior, as these take away from the intention of the institutionalization of the Boro day Celebration by the Bayelsa state government.

The statement specially heaped praises on the people of Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA describing them as a blessed Ijaw extraction whose sons have always been at the forefront inspiring development in the state and the Ijaw nation in general, noting particularly that just as Boro did decades ago, another Kolga son in the person of His Excellency Sen. Douye Diri is advancing the infrastructural turn around of the state in present times, building roads that binds, bridges that link up all Ijaws, Boro did it by the might of his brawns and the courage of his will, but in this age and time Diri is doing same with the might of his Executive pen and cheer political will to move our marginalized nation forward. Pointing to daring projects like the ongoing Nembe/Brass road, Oporoma road, The Igbogene/AIT road, the Glory drive amongst others, the former Secretary -General of the Bayelsa State Centre for Youths Development opined that only a man of sincere love for his people, and a courageous pathfinder with the Boro spirit could envisage let alone execute these projects in such a short period of time, given the economic situation of the nation.

The statement concluded with a charge on Bayelsa youths to remain steadfast in the Ijaw struggle, as we must all be ready to act the part to build that future we desire, if not for ourselves, for our children and those to come after our generation is long gone, a task not to be accomplished by building the most beautiful houses or buying the most exotic cars, neither sleeping in the most luxurious hotel rooms will do, but little contribution in the building of capacities and standing up for the common good takes us closer to achieving that goal inch by inch. Igbeta concluded.
