The Premium Bakers Association of Nigeria (PBAN) has called off its four-day warning strike.
According to Track News, the breadmakers began their nationwide warning strike on Thursday, July 21, 2022, in response to rising baking materials and other prices in the country.

They also urged the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to reduce the N154,000 penalty levied on bakeries for failing to renew their certificates on time.

In an interview with Track News on Tuesday, PBAN President Emmanuel Onuorah said his members had decided to raise bread prices to offset the impact of the harsh operating environment.

He stated that, despite the recent increase, the bakers are still operating at a loss, and that members have been forced to employ a variety of survival strategies in order to stay in business.

“We have ended the warning strike/service withdrawal,” he said. We finished it on Monday and have resumed operations. Since yesterday, we have been producing and selling bread (Monday). Master Bakers have also begun. We both finished at the same time. You are aware that it was a joint resolution of the Master Bakers and the PBAN. So we started working.

We raised the price of bread. We raised our bread prices by 10%, while master bakers raised their prices by 20%. We would have preferred not to raise our prices, but it is the only way we can stay in business.”
