BREAKING: Lagos Assembly Speaker Obasa Impeached

Lagos State Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa has been impeached by 32 members of the Lagos State House of Assembly amid heavy security presence.

The impeachment comes amidst allegations of corruption and financial mismanagement against the speaker.

Obasa was impeached for gross misconduct and abuse of office. He has been accused of spending a staggering N17 billion on a gate to the assembly complex, which critics argue is excessive and fraudulent. Additionally, there have been allegations of mishandling constituency funds and projects.

The allegations against Obasa are not new. In December 2024, an anti-corruption group petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe the assembly over the N17 billion gate project. The group also accused Obasa and the clerk of the House, Onafeko Biliamin, of mishandling constituency intervention funds and projects.

Obasa has been replaced by Mojisola Miranda from Apapa 1 constituency.
