BREAKING: Ondo Election: Court Dismisses APC Gov’ship Aspirant’s Suit Against Akeredolu
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, dismissed a suit challenging the validity of the All Progressive Congress’ governorship primary elections that produce d Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the candidate of the party for the October 10 governorship election.
TrackNews Online earlier reported that Akeredolu of the APC won the governorship poll after securing a total of 292,830 votes to beat other contestants in the race.
But one of the APC governorship aspirants , Dr. Nath Adojutelegan, had on August 3, approached the court in Abuja, seeking an order to nullify the primary election of Akeredolu and an order for fresh election.
He had claimed that the APC did not hold a valid governorship primary election on July 17 and 20.
The first, second and third defendants in the suit are the APC, Akeredolu and the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).
On his part, the APC counsel, B.A. Oyun had argued that the suit was incompetent and that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
Justice Okong Abang agreed with the defendants that the suit was out of time, thereby the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter.
“This suit is hereby dismissed for want of jurisdiction,” he said.
Abang also ordered the plantiff to pay the APC and Akeredolu 50,000 naira each
