BREAKING: Tribunal Rules In Favour Of Peter Obi On One Ground
The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal, PEPT, has ruled in favour of Peter Obi on one ground.
TrackNews reports that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal in its ongoing judgment in the 2023 presidential election rendered a verdict on a petition brought forth by the All Progressives Congress (APC). In the petition, the Tribunal ruled against the APC which contested the membership status of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate.
The APC contended that Obi’s affiliation with the LP was invalid because he had not been a member of the party for a minimum of 30 days before the party’s presidential primary.
In its judgment, the PEPT deemed the APC’s petition as lacking merit, ultimately dismissing it on grounds of incompetence. This has laid to rest the controversy surrounding Obi’s membership of the LP. It is also the first victory of the LP presidential candidate in the ongoing judgment.
The former Anambra State Governor would have lost out if the court had nullified his candidacy due to his membership of the LP. However, with his victory on this ground, Obi and his party are hoping to get victory in the final judgment on who actually won the presidential election between him and Bola Tinubu of APC.
