President Muhammadu Buhari will dedicate the Nigerian Navy (NN) Sports Complex in Lagos on Thursday.
Commodore Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan, Director of Naval Information (DINFO), announced this during a visit to The Nation’s headquarters yesterday.
According to DINFO, the sports complex in Navy Town in Ojo is the first of its kind in the service’s history.
He stated that the complex would host the 12th Nigerian Navy Games, which would aim to improve the physical fitness and well-being of personnel from various commands, units, and bases across the country.
Ayo-Vaughan, who was received by the Managing Editor for Editorial Services, Lawal Ogienagbon, on behalf of Managing Director Victor Ifijeh, stated that the visit was in recognition of the newspaper’s support for the Nigerian Navy over the years.
He urged The Nation not to waver in its commitment to fair and accurate reporting of Navy activities, assuring that the service would respond to issues in a timely manner.
The DINFO also highlighted some of the Navy’s successes under Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, emphasizing that maritime crimes had been drastically reduced and Nigeria had been removed from the International Maritime Bureau’s (IMB) piracy hotspot lists.
In line with the CNS’s vision, Ayo-Vaughan stated that the Navy would continue to deny oil thieves and other economic saboteurs access to the country’s maritime space in order to carry out their criminal activities.
