Suspected burglars have reportedly looted a shop behind Oredo Local Government Council Secretariat in Benin City, Edo State Capital.

“Mama Lola shop,” as the shop owner is known, was burgled in the early hours of Friday when businesses in the area had closed.

It was learned that 134 crates of beverages worth over N1.2 million were stolen from the beverage shop and smuggled away to an unknown destination.

Local vigilantes attached to Oba market apprehended one of the fleeing criminal suspects in his hideout, but the stolen crates of the beverage drink are yet to be recovered.

Two months ago, Stakeholders at Oba market increased the security levy paid per trader and squatter in the Oba market area from the sum of N1,500 to N2,500 monthly.

TheNewspad reports that the criminal suspect has been handed over to police at Oba market Division for investigation and diligent prosecution.

At the top end of the security scale lies a thriving illicit drug business around the neighborhood.

Sadly, non-challant residents and Oredo Local Government Council’s administration, seem lethargic in pointing to the aggression and recklessness at the corridor of the City.

However, traders at Oba market and their counterparts in other parts of the State insist that there is no room for complacency about securing their stocks having met their contractual obligations.
