Court Takes Action: Four Remanded For Alleged Cyberstalking Of GTB Managing Director
A Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Ayokule Faji, has remanded four individuals in custody over allegations of cyberstalking and disseminating false information intended to insult Mr. Segun Agbaje, the Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of Guaranty Trust Holding PLC
The accused—Precious Eze (38), Olawale Rotimi (47), Rowland Olonishu, and Seun Odunlami—were ordered to be held at the Ikoyi facility of the Nigeria Correctional Service Centre following their arraignment on two counts of cyberstalking and spreading false information.
According to the amended charge filed by the police on September 26, 2024, the defendants allegedly conspired in August 2024 in Lagos to commit a felony involving cyberstalking, an offense punishable under Section 27 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, as amended in 2024.
The charges further allege that the four defendants knowingly sent false messages on social media, including claims such as “EFCC, FRIS storms GTBank over Segun Agbaje’s N1 trillion scam” and “Whistle Blowers expose Segun Agbaje’s nepotism, power play, enrich him and sister, Kofo Dosekunni.” These publications were intended to insult Mr. Agbaje or cause him criminal intimidation, annoyance, needless anxiety, injury, or hatred, constituting an offense under Section 24 (1) (b) of the Cybercrimes Act.
