Monarch tasks oil firms on environment
A Monarch in Bayelsa State, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, has called on multi nationals to adhere to environmental best practices in the Niger Delta region.He made the call at the weekend, during the 9th annual conference of Centre for Peace and Environmental Justice (CEPEJ) in Niger State.
The monarch stressed that when the firms keep to good environmental governance, their host communities would not oppose, or hinder their explorations in the region.
He called on Federal Government to compel multi nationals to work towards creating programmes that will engage and educate youths in Niger Delta.Coordinator Othing EJ, Sheriff Mulade, disclosed that they would use the conference to sensitise Africans, especially, Nigerians on how to promote peaceful coexistence.
Also, Liberian Ambassador to Nigeria, Prof. Al-Hassan Conteh, said government must do every thing to develop conceptual framework that encourages participatory democracy.
Director General of National Orientation Agency, Dr. Garba Abari, explained that the conference has come at time when Nigerians were more concerned about peaceful elections in 2019.
