Cabinet shake-up looms as President Tinubu prepares for first anniversary
As President Bola Tinubu gears up for the celebration of his first anniversary in office, indications suggest a possible cabinet shake-up on the horizon.
Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, President Tinubu has hinted at periodic assessments of his cabinet members’ performance, with a commitment to replace those who do not meet expectations.

During a retreat for ministers last November, President Tinubu underscored the importance of performance, stating, “If you are performing, nothing to fear. If you miss the objective, we’ll review it. If no performance, you will leave us.”
In line with this, a team of about 140 officials, led by Mrs. Hadiza Bala Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy Coordination, has been tasked with evaluating the performance of various federal ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs).
Reports indicate that this evaluation process may culminate in the removal of underperforming ministers and a reshuffling of offices within the government.
However, the exact criteria for the impending sack of ministers and reshufflement remain unclear, and it is uncertain whether the reports of the assessment agency will be the sole basis for these decisions.
Additionally, President Tinubu may use this opportunity to review the appointments of ministers facing issues before integrity agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
