Calvin Bassey doubtful for Portugal’s friendly

Ajax and Super Eagles centre back Calvin Bassey is a major doubt for Nigeria’s Thursday’s friendly game against Portugal after he was substituted at half time on Saturday in their Dutch Eredivisie 3-3 draw at Emmen.
Bassey, 22, joined Ajax from Glasgow Rangers in the summer and has since cemented his place as one of Ajax’s most trusted centre backs.
For the Super Eagles too, Bassey has made the transition to centre back from left back and is now the rock at the heart of the Nigerian defence.
Bassey was taken off the pitch in the 40th minute for treatment and returned a few minutes later. However, he was replaced at half-time by Netherlands international Daley Blind.
Already, Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro is without the services of Ola Aina, Zaidu Sanusi, Jamilu Collins, Semi Ajayi and Leon Balogun all as a result of injuries. Thursday’s friendly tie will be played at the Estadio Jose Alvalade, Lisbon.
