Liverpool advanced to the last-16 of the Champions League after defeating Ajax on Wednesday evening at the Johan Cruyff Arena.
After an odd night in Amsterdam, where they were outclassed for 30 minutes before scoring, Jurgen Klopp’s team advanced to the next round of the Champions League with one match remaining.

The Reds responded with a ruthless second-half performance, putting their domestic problems behind them and securing a place in the last 16.

Given that they lost their first group match 4-1 to Napoli, defeating the Dutch powerhouse is a reasonable result for the German manager.

Steven Berghuis squandered an early chance against Klopp’s men, who were otherwise atrocious in the first 30 minutes.

Jordan Henderson passed to Mo Salah three minutes before halftime, who scored to spark the Reds’ awakening. Darwin Nunez scored with a header early in the second half, which was quickly followed by a piercing Harvey Elliott angle shot.

It was a significant improvement, and it was enough to eliminate an Ajax threat that seemed to vanish after they missed a number of early opportunities.

Liverpool can host Napoli in the final round of group-stage matches next week knowing that their place has been secured thanks to the easy victory over the reigning Eredivisie champions.
