The Nigeria Police Force, Zone 5, has reiterated the zone’s ban on using fireworks during and after the holiday season.

Lawan Jimeta, AIG in charge of the zone, which includes Edo and Delta, disclosed this in a statement issued by DSP Tijani Momoh, Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, on Saturday in Abuja.

According to Jimeta, the explosive devices can endanger lives and property, disrupt public order, and cause unnecessary panic among zone residents.

“In light of the foregoing, the zone hereby appeals to the general public, including parents and guardians, to refrain from detonating or lighting these devices.”

“Parents should discourage their children and wards from purchasing or using these items.”

“Retailers of these devices are also advised and warned to halt sales, as any individual or group of individuals found flouting this order will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” he said.

The AIG also used the medium to extend his Christmas greetings to the Christian faithful and others in the zone.

He assured residents in the zone that the zonal command was ready to ensure the safety and security of lives and property throughout the holiday season.

He revealed that the zone had put in place adequate security measures in terms of both men and material resources to ensure a smooth and trouble-free Yuletide celebration.
