Coach Holds People Accountable for Igboanugo’s Death in Imo

A boxing trainer has identified those responsible for Chukwuemeka Igboanugo’s death.
The boxer died while representing his home state of Imo at the ongoing National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State, according to Track News.In their 86kg category bout, Igboanugo passed out after receiving multiple punches to the chin from Anambra’s Gaby Amagor. The fight was said to have been stopped by the referee after Igboanugo slumped in the ring. According to reports, the boxer was rushed to the hospital in an attempt to resuscitate him.Unfortunately, he passed away in the hospital.Borno State coach Endurance Aberegidi, on the other hand, blamed the boxer’s death on the medical personnel at the venue. He chastised them for their treatment and inaction, which could have saved the athlete’s life.Aberegidi told reporters that he was in the ring on Monday and saw the fighter pass away.”It was a pitiful situation.” “This guy trained for years and then dies in the ring after getting a national opportunity,” he said.”I was at the ringside when he fell, and the medics rushed in and tried to revive him,” he added. They took him to the emergency unit after he responded slightly, and then they asked for the boxer’s coach.”When I approached them, they informed me that the boy was not responding to treatment.”The coach described how much time they wasted looking for the Imo coach rather than treating Igboanugo right away.”They were looking for the coach for over 20 minutes because the boy was not responding to treatment,” Aberegidi added. I’m not sure why they took so long to treat the boy. They should have concentrated on his treatment. They said the boy refused to be treated, and after a short time, they returned and said he had passed away.”Meanwhile, boxer Israel Makinde of Lagos State has expressed his grief over Igboanugo’s death.”It’s strange, it’s so painful,” he said. But I’m not afraid; I believe you should be aware of your health before a fight, so I’m attempting to prepare for my flyweight semi-final clash tomorrow.”
