The Anambra state police command has asked a Twitter user to come forward with evidence to prove that a Divisional Police Officer asked for N350, 000 before the body of a man that was killed in Awka, the state capital last Saturday, would be released.

Twitter user @princenenchecfr had raised the alarm on his handle.

”Hello sirs @BenHundeyin and @Princemoye1, My friend was murdered in Anambra on Saturday and no leads till now, Currently the police at CPS awka is asking for 350k to release his corpse for burial. What is the hope of the common man in Nigeria. Please help us!.” he wrote

In a press statement released today December 2, the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, dismissed claims that the corpse has not been released.

He said it is not within the powers of the DPO to release corpses or to investigate murder cases. In the statement released, he asked the Twitter user to ”come with evidence and witnesses of persons when the DPO demanded the sum three hundred and fifty thousand naira from him and later the corpse was released.”

”The case has been transferred to State CID for proper review and consolidation of information before us. Recall on Saturday 26/11/2022, there was rivalry Cult shootings that took place in Awka and this led to the murder of a young man. The Command already has three suspects in custody and investigation is still ongoing.’

The Command also want to use this medium to invite the Twitter handler @princenenchecfr to Anambra State Police Command by 11am on Wednesday 7/12/2022 to come with evidence and witnesses of persons when the DPO demanded the sum three hundred and fifty thousand naira from him and later the corpse was released. This will enable us come out with facts of what transpired” the statement in part reads
